Diesel fuel does have lubrication properties and they aid in the lubrication within the fuel pump. At one time fuel oil was either #1 or #2 with #1 being fuel oil for use in heaters and furnaces and #2 for use as a motor fuel. I have been told that #1 shouldn’t be used as a motor fuel due to less lubrication properties and most likely a lower ‘centane’ (like octane)

As stated by prior contributor, our US diesel has been changed in the last few years to contain lower ’sulfur’ and additives have been added to compensate for the reduction in lubrication.
A curious fact about ‘Bio-diesel’ is that not only is it biodegradable, has fuel system ‘cleaning agents’, and of course, produces few if any hydrocarbons but it has far higher lubing properties than ‘petro-based’ diesel.
Diesel is also a more stable compound than gasoline.
Hope this helps answer your question.

No, the viscosity of diesel remains on the other side of the performance. Heat and pressure are detonators of high-power-energy release only after the diesel has been gasified (or extra finely pulverize in de combustion chamber). It is the lubricate property what makes it harder to mix at the optimal level of oxygen-diesel-pressure-temperature for the diesel to liberate its energy. That in addition to the corrosive nature of the diesel hardly makes lubrication a performance booster. So the answer is no, yet performance lost is negligible in the overall process.

Yes.
November 30th, 2009 at 1:10 amThe sulfur.
But, with Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel that is now 5 PPM sulfur compared to the Euros and their 15 PPM sulfur contect, you need additives to keep the injectors lubed.
Contrary to uninformed belief, our diesel is VERY CLEAN now.

Not really. It’s pretty dirty actually. They could make diesel fuel a lot better quality in America, the same with gas, but they won’t because it would increase fuel economy and you wouldn’t buy as much fuel from them.
