My friends have been trying to talk me out of a BMW. People say that BMW’s are bad because when they break down it is very expensive to fix.
So I was wondering, how reliable is a brand new BMW or more specifically how reliable is a brand new BMW 335i?
Is it as bad as everyone makes it?

If the car is maintained then no worries. The engine is bullet proof.

well with any car its hard to guess when one might break any part only good car care can slow it down and as for bmw sure they great cars but for here the parts are really high to replace maybe three times more than a ford or chevy which drive and last just as long with right care most any car able to drive into the 400,000 range before they die but as for parts who knows can be like 50,000 could be 5000 most of time with right care five yrs maybe before something big happens

We purchased a BMW in 2005 – a Certified Pre-owned, used as a dealer’s loaner car. It had 10,000 miles on it when we perchased it. We bought the extended warranty also. The car is still running like new. We have had it in to the dealer once other than maintenance – the electronic rear-view mirror wasn’t operating correctly. It is my wife’s car, and other than being a little small for me, it is the nicest car we have ever owned (including a Mercedes, that I would NEVER buy again.)

Outside of that, I’d imagine you’re pretty safe with any 09 vehicle, regardless of the manufacturer.

thats a lie. the only bmw that has problems or bad ratings would be the coupes and the 7 series. 7 series has improves though.

Those that can truly afford a BMW never have to ask this question. They will own the car one, maybe two years on the average and then they will trade it in for a new one.
November 24th, 2009 at 8:47 amThey do come with a warranty, so I would say that you should get one more day then the warranty lasts, or one more mile then the warranty covers. After that you will pay through the nose for any repair work that is required. Up to that point watch out for maintenance costs. If I remember right, BMW has a good deal on covering this cost for a while. After that expect to pay a lot.
Now, I can’t afford a BMW. So I drive Mazda or Fords. So I tend to put ten or more years owning them. So all that I have to replace is an occasional water pump and maybe an alternator.
So please buy that BMW and enjoy all the extra costs. I will just keep my Fords and Mazda products. They cost half as much and last twice as long.
