hi there. i am planning to buy a 2008 scion tc with supercharger installed by the dealer which is gonna cost me almost $3200. i barely have any idea about super charger but just know that it will give me more horse power. my first question is the supercharger bad for cars? do i need any other modification if i install supercharger? is the car gonna take more gas? is it worth it for $3200? or should i just get a good intake? is the car gonna output 200hp(super charger) + 160hp(stock) = 360hp in total. thank you in advance for ur assistance

No, not 360!!
November 6th, 2009 at 12:02 amIt will go UP TO 200 from 160, LOL!
Only uses more gas when you drive it hard. Drive it like a grandma and you will be fine.
Will have to buy premium gas, not regular.

First of all it gives more torque not horsepower. The supercharger is not bad for cars but it does add quite a bit of weight. No you do not need any other modification. The car is going to take more gas. I think $3200 is worth it. I am not sure cuz i do not have a car i am just a kid who loves cars and has knowledge about them. You could get bigger throttle body bigger air filter clean ports for less intake resistance. Get heads that have more than one valve per cylinder. That will probably cost more than jus getting supercharger. But if you get supercharger you are probably going to have to run on higher octane fuel to avoid knock you might not have to it depends on your compression ratio and how much boost you are going to use with the supercharger. Knock is when the fuel ignites before the spark plug fires because of too high compression. If you crank the boost up high you are probably going to have to get bigger injectors so it can put enough fuel in the cylinders for it to run good. If you have too small injectors your car will run lean and poor because not enough fuel is going in and that can cause your car to overheat.

A supercharger uses high air pressure to cram more air/fuel mixture into the cylinders to get more power. By definition, it’s going to use more fuel–that is the whole purpose. It also puts more strain on the engine so your rings, valves, bearings, etc. don’t last as long.
November 6th, 2009 at 1:05 amSome engines are built especially for superchargers, all the parts made heavier and stronger, but putting a supercharger on a regular engine will just shorten its life. You’re getting almost twice the HP the engine was designed for! So you have to make the decision whether this is worth it to you.

hi man, you should think before you get that SC. The hp will not be tht great as you intended. I’m sure it will smoke a tire pretty good though. In the scion tc I think you’ll be satisified with wat you get. You’ll have to burn premium gas in the car to prevent the knock, caused by the extra pressure on the block and pistons. See if you can get tht estimate from the dealer in writing. You’ll need a boost gauge inside ur car and a cold air intake(optional). When your putting the pedal to the medal it’ll use some gas, but other than tht u might save some!!! If you can afford it without taking on a 2nd job do it and if not keep it simple, but if you do it’ll b perfect. By the way consider a Chevy Cobalt SS supercharged(21k 205hp) looks are as super sport.

the car will not gain 200hp with a blower, maybe 60-80 at most on a modest sized engine like the scion has, without other modifications, and the price is alot. A Tc isn’t the way to go at all for a performance vehicle. I still cannot understand why people try to soup up cars that aren’t performance cars.
