possibly better mpg if an inefficient core is brought up to spec and/or you cruise the hiway alot, but of course keeping your foot out of it will be an issue… ; )
cheers!
No. It will give you more horsepower and worse fuel economy.
But you’ll probably get better fuel economy than if you had gotten a bigger engine with equivalent horsepower.
Consider 3 engines:
- a 4-cylinder, 150hp
- a V-6, 200hp
- The same 4-cylinder with a supercharger, 200hp
The supercharged 4-cyl. is likely to be worse fuel economy than the normal 4-cyl. but better than the V-6 with equivalent horsepower.
As long as you don’t drive faster and accelerate quicker because of the supercharger, you will see better mpg.
The supercharger creates a more efficient engine, unless of course they install larger fuel injectors with the supercharger which may cancel it’s efficiency effect.
No. You’ll get worse MPG.
A supercharger is driven by a belt off your crankshaft (like a fan belt). Therefore, it provides an extra drag. Kind of like running an airconditioner full time. However, it also is a linear boost for more even and better acceleration.
A turbocharger is driven off the exhaust. It doesn’t get moving until high RPM’s. Then, the thrust just comes booming in. It doesn’t put a drag on your gas mileage like a supercharger, but the power is uneven and they tend to burn out.
