Ford’s Warriors in Pink – Driving for a Cause

31 December 2009 | No Comments » | admin

Since the year 1995, Ford has allocated more than $87 million to create breast cancer awareness and eradication. Further, in its Bold Moves plan, the automaker sets forth its Warriors in Pink, which is aimed at bolstering Ford’s goal.

While the automaker is busy promoting its new Super Duty to defend the ‘King of the Hill’ title and making popular its 2005 Ford Super Duty parts, Ford is also focused on one vital social and medical ruthless slayer that has took away more than thousands of lives breast cancer.

Episode 16 of Bold Moves profiles Ford’s Warriors in Pink, which conveys that every individual has the power to fight back cancer and mark a difference. Globally, breast cancer is the most common form of cancer among women. It is also the most fatal cancer among females. The figures of fatalities of breast cancer continue to rise with time hence; the call to a more rigid campaign is crucial.

Warriors in Pink of Ford raise funds for the benefit of Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, an organization that is devoted to develop awareness, finance significant research, educate people, promote early detection techniques of breast cancer and create community outreach programs.

Ford recruits Warriors to lend a hand in ramping up the fight against breast cancer. The automaker helps the foundation through the sale of specially designed apparel and accessories for men, women and children. These items are displayed on Ford Cares domain. All of the Warrior in Pink gear net proceeds will go to Komen Foundation.

The symbol of Ford’s commitment is a pink Fusion, wrapped in artsy logos designed for said cause. Warrior in Pink is part of Ford’s Bold Moves. The latter involves a series of Ford’s plan to recover from its past losses. Every week on the Bold Moves website, visitors can enjoy the 3.5 minute video installment about the automaker’s episodes to move forward.

“The documentary will present a picture of a company that is committed to revitalization through our people, products, improved quality and costs, and a laser-sharp focus on the customer,” said Mark Fields, Ford’s President of the Americas. “Each episode will provide evidence that it’s not business as usual at the Ford Motor Company and that ‘Change or Die’ is not a sound bite. It’s the way we’re approaching our future.”

The Biggest Automotive Award of the Year Goes to the Suv With the Littlest Negative Impact on the Earth

31 December 2009 | No Comments » | admin

Earlier this month, an SUV that will debut on the automotive market in early 2008, won an award in Los Angeles.

When the Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid hits the roads in the spring of 2008, it will already have made history. Not only because it will be the first full size Hybrid SUV on the market, but also because it holds the prestigious title of ?Green Car of The Year?. The annual award was presented to Jay Flaherty of Chevrolet, at the Los Angeles auto show by Ron Cogan, publisher of ?Green Car Journal?.

The panelists that decided who the recipient of the ?Green Car of the Year? award would be included Jay Leno, host of the Tonight Show, Carroll Shelby, legendary automotive designer, and spokesperson representing four environmental organizations.

The Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid brought to us by General Motors Corp., will also be the first General Motors vehicle that offers a hybrid system designed and developed in a collaborative effort with input given from BMW AG, Chrysler, Mercedes-Benz, in addition to GM.

General Motors Shows A Strong Back After Causing A Major Controversy.

With the release of the Chevy Tahoe Hybrid, some critics may finally forgive General Motors for what was perceived as a major mistake. In 1997, GM launched the battery operated EV1, and the little electric cars were a hit with the few people who ever had the chance to own one. The revolutionary automobile never made it to the world, only the most thoroughly screened politian’s and celebrities were given the privilege of leasing them, and then they had to give them back. In 2002, GM yanked all the prototypes back in, and sent them to the junk heap. The reason was never explained in detail, nor will GM offer any further information on the particular issue. The entire program was completely and officially cancelled in 2003, the brief statement given at the time by a spokesperson for GM claimed that they ?never realized any profit from the product.?

Sophisticated Look, Distinctive Features, And Powerful Performance.

Powered by the world’s first two-mode hybrid engine system, the Chevy Tahoe Hybrid is inspiring to drive. This will be the first hybrid that is designed to optimize fuel efficiency for both city and highway driving. In the first mode, for driving at low speeds, with light loads, the Tahoe hybrid can operate in three different ways; gasoline engine only, electric only, or gas and electric together. In the second mode, for highway driving, or for pulling or carrying heavy loads, the Tahoe operates mainly with the powerful V-8 engine, assisted by electric battery when passing, or slowing.

Safety, appearance, and comfort are of great import to GM, as always. The newest member of the Chevy family is no exception to the rule. The Tahoe Hybrid SUV is as pleasing to the viewer, as is it is to the driver. The exterior has a sleek but sporty aerodynamic design, with optional features available. The dynamics that power the new model of Chevy Tahoe are updated, upgraded versions of the quality components that have made General Motors’ the worthy brand it has become. The interior of this model received quite a bit of enhancement over last year’s design. Including added storage space, additional air bags, and classy changes to the instrument panel and center console.

Chrysler, Chery Small Car Project is Off

31 December 2009 | No Comments » | admin

Back in 2005, I wrote that a Chinese automotive company by the name of Chery Automotive was planning to import a car to the US with an unusually low sticker price ? the $6600 Chery QQ. Based on a model ripped off from GM, the Chevy Spark, the little Chery could have turned the domestic automobile market on its side by undercutting all competitors by several thousands of dollars.

Alas, the Chery deal fell through and the company isn’t planning to bring the QQ to the US any time soon. However, as recently as last year Chery was working on an arrangement with Chrysler LLC where the American automaker would import the QQ and sell that car as a Dodge, but now that arrangement has also collapsed as Chrysler’s financial predicament has forced the two automakers to cancel their deal.

In some ways the Chery QQ deal could have been a huge boon for Chrysler. With absolutely no subcompact model in its portfolio to speak of, Chrysler could have used the QQ to stimulate sales and dealer showroom traffic.

Back during the 1970s and 1980s when Chrysler needed a small car, they turned to their Japanese partner, Mitsubishi, who supplied several Dodge and Plymouth models to the company. These cars were very small, highly economical, and cheaply priced. You may remember them as the Plymouth Champ and Dodge Colt to name just a few of the Mitsubishi cars sporting fresh badges on American highways.

Both companies have issued press statements noting the canceling of their relationship citing changes in the corporate direction of both companies as the reason for canceling the QQ project. Of course, Chrysler is the one struggling the most as the automaker is still try to secure funds from the federal government as of this writing.

Will we see an ultra low cost car on our shores anytime soon? Perhaps in a few years when the global economy settles down. But for right now, the only Chery we’ll see are those featured on websites dedicated to Chinese cars.

Honda Siel Cars India to Locally Produce Honda Cr-vs

31 December 2009 | No Comments » | admin

Honda?s subsidiary in India, Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI) with plant located at the Greater Noida near Delhi is considering manufacturing the CR-V.

Currently, the CR-V Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) is imported from Japan and distributed in the Indian market. According to Masahiro Takedagawa, President and CEO of HSCI in an interview with DNA Money said, “We are studying the possibilities of producing the CR-V locally, which will help us become a far more active player in the growing SUV market.”

Around 300 units of CR-V are sold in India every month and priced at Rs 20 lakh. Nearly half of this figure is comprised of import duty components. And just in case Honda would finally decide to manufacture the CR-V locally, price would likely go down to Rs 12-14 lakh which will surely entice customers.

In the top-end SUV segment, CR-V is the lead player along with Mitsubishi Pajero, Ford Endeavour, Suzuki Vitara and other models of which mostly are directly imported.

The advantage of local production is that more CR-Vs will be produce and aside from that HSCI also believes that there is a potential to increase market share once the vehicle built a strong brand image in the market.

Mr. Takedagawa also said that the company is hoping to produce around 68,000 units comprising of Civic, City, and Accord. HSCI has announced that it intends to manufacture over 150,000 cars by 2010 which is the same year when annual car production in the country is expected to reach 2.5 million units. Mr. Takedagawa also said that the company is really serious in its desire to increase its overall market share in India. The company is hoping to close this fiscal with the production of around 68,000 units consisting of the Civic, Accord, and City.

In addition, Mr. Takedagawa mentioned that the company will introduce a new hatchback which it plans of introducing in a couple of years and will play an important role in the sales growth that Honda the producer of high quality Acura CL catalytic converter is expecting in the future. The car is said to be a derivative of the Jazz and is scheduled to be produced at the second plant in Rajasthan.

This new plant is different from the one at Greater Noida where body panels are imported but this will not be the case with the plant in Rajasthan where a stamping facility is being installed specifically for this purpose.

There are also plans of producing locally important engine parts to keep costs low and at the same time to increase production volumes.

Ford Windstar Recalls – A Complete Auto Review.

31 December 2009 | No Comments » | admin

Clearly, a less important concern – for the moment-than Ford Windstar recalls might be what Levine Breaking News reported March 14, 2006: an anti-gay/conservative Christian group are seeking retribution by boycotting Ford Motors…because Ford advertises in gay publications.

Tell me when did we give up the right to spend our hard-earned money on costly advertising, top-class merchandise, and any ^%$# publication we wish to read, write for, subscribe to, publicize in, or be a demographic target for? Okay. Hold on. Before I get all involved in who has what – ahem – RIGHTS, I should calm down, digress, and recoup to the more significant concern or issue: Ford Winstar recalls. There are several of them, that vary from safety and other recall issues (and usually getting increasingly lessened by year), but a mention here will suffice, as other investigations thoroughly cover by describing and explaining.

With all of or despite all the recalls, I am still a huge Ford fan-having brought up around, in, and looking at and listening to hot rods and trucks made by Ford Motor Corp.. What’s more, I would still fight for the right to sell, buy, advertise, drive, think about or talk about any damned material item I please. Go Ford!

Toyota Likely to Beat Ford in U.s

30 December 2009 | No Comments » | admin

Toyota Motor Corp. is expected to gain enough to take over Ford Motor Co. as the second largest automaker in the United States next to General Motors. According to some auto analysts, they saw large sales in December on the part of Ford. This is perceived to be in favor of the struggling Japanese automaker.

Edmunds.com tracked auto sales data and stated that Ford could suffer a remarkable 19.6 percent drop in December compared to last year’s record. On the one hand, Ronald Tadross, Bank of America analyst, expects that Ford would drop by 10 to 12 percent range. Also, several analysts expect that Toyota has the nerve to unseat the ailing Ford.

If auto analysts’ prediction would turn into reality, it would happen for the second month in a row and the third month of 2006. Jesse Toprak, chief economist for Edmunds, said Toyota likely will claim the No. 2 spot for the year in 2007, although Ford could bounce back for a few months during the first half of the new year. Toprak added, “They’re [Ford] going to be down in pretty much every single segment. They really did not have any new products that will bring excitement and showroom traffic to a great extent.”

Toprak also noted that the sales drop of Ford is attributed to the cessation of Taurus production. Taurus is a midsize front wheel drive vehicle. The car was introduced in 1985 to replace the Fairmont. Taurus auto parts are known for their reliability. No wonder why the car is loved by a lot of aficionados even up to this present time.

Toprak also expects that the sale of Ford’s bread and butter trucks will also decline. One of Ford’s pride vehicles is the F-150, the best-selling pickup in America. This is the very reason why Ford is meticulously supervising the manufacture and assembly of auto parts Ford F-150. “We cannot be distracted about things like that,” said George Pipas, Ford’s top sales analyst. He added that Ford is focused on returning its business to profitability.

It can be recalled that Ford has lost $7 billion during the first three quarters of 2006. Moreover, more declines in sales are expected to overwhelm the automaker. Toyota, on the one hand, is expected to yield a 7.3 percent increase in December.

Jobs In The Modern Automotive Industry

30 December 2009 | No Comments » | admin

Jobs within the automotive industry are extremely varied. Depending on which element you would like to enter defines what kind of jobs to go for. Put simply there are two major sectors dividing the industry; those who work in the development, manufacture and sale of new cars, and those involved in the after sales garage industries.

Both can be lucrative industries to enter, especially the latter as the majority of people lack any real mechanical knowledge so your skill with an engine is often required by many.

Employment within the car manufacturing industry has a wide scope and is not necessarily defined by engineering qualifications. Sadly the British motor industry had been in decline for some years, most will remember the ghastly scenes outside Rover’s Longbridge plant during its closure in 2005.

It seems to have settled down in recent years with large plants in Ellesmere Port, Southampton and Sunderland still open, producing cars for Vauxhall, Ford and Nissan respectively. These construction jobs will most probably come under threat eventually, as with much of the automotive industry in Britain, cheaper production abroad means companies are less inclined to use the British workforce.

Construction is not the only field available in the motor industry. In terms of creative development, many British applicants have gone on to work for the major car companies to design future models despite production being moved overseas. Added to this, thanks to British universities leading the way in engineering scholarship, the talents of British design engineers are required worldwide.

Their knowledge has helped bring the motor industry forward, creating new technologies and providing expert advice is clearly a niche that British engineers have managed to chisel out in an extremely competitive global market.

However if you are in the process of looking for jobs in the automotive industry do not be disheartened by lack of engineering know-how or the dwindling opportunities in vehicle manufacture. Showroom sales and after sales care are a very important part of the business and pay handsomely for employees who can sell well.

As a car sales representative being able to bend people to your will is a requirement as this will help in selling cars. Subsequently pay is often performance related and those who have a clear drive for earning would be suited to this type of job as the reward of an extra big pay packet can be enough to pursue sales fervently.

The vast majority of UK motor trade vacancies however are in the garage and after sales industry. The legislative insistence upon the MOT test, added to a car’s need to be serviced regularly creates a constant stream of work for garages.

Employment within the industry varies from MOT testers to panel beaters, whilst running a garage can be extremely lucrative. When beginning in the trade, options include college courses that will qualify students to work on cars and apprenticeships that allow on the job training.

Knowing your way round an engine is no longer a sure fire way into the modern automotive trade. Increasingly cars are becoming more advanced, with electronics and electronic diagnosis becoming a major constituent of the job.

Today’s mechanical engineering college courses are not wholly practical either and contain a large theoretic element requiring much study and written examinations. Seemingly the days of the ‘grease-monkey’ are over, as the industry evolves those who can work a lap top will be increasingly required to diagnose and repair engine malfunctions.

Applicants for jobs in this industry vary from engineering graduates to mechanics’ apprentices. Those in manufacture take pride in the production of evermore modern and improved designs whereas those in after sales care ensure that people’s cars are roadworthy and running well. Both sets of skills are valued equally in an industry that prides itself on getting people moving

Daimler Blames Chrysler For Losses, Expects Prolonged Downturn

30 December 2009 | No Comments » | admin

Daimler AG, the big German automaker who produces Mercedes, Maybach and Smart cars, announced a big fourth quarter loss of $1.95 billion, placing much of those losses on the back of Chrysler LLC, a company the automaker still holds a stake in. Daimler said that they would have realized a gain for the quarter, but its 19.9% investment in Chrysler LLC wiped that gain out.

But declining sales for Mercedes has hurt the German company too, as Mercedes US sales slipped by 11.2% in 2008. In January, the decline deepened with Mercedes sales plunging 42.9%. Daimler ended its fourth quarter on December 31st, so January sales have no bearing on the latest profit numbers.

Seeing that the trend is downward, Daimler has announced that they expect losses to increase for 2009. As a result, the automaker is cutting production and trimming administration costs. In addition, Daimler says that there will be more sharing between various products.

Daimler has expressed interest in selling its remaining share in Chrysler LLC, but not movement is pending on that effort. Daimler is keeping its eye on a potential Fiat-Chrysler hook up which would make it easier to sell its share in the troubled US automaker. Last summer, Daimler wrote down its value in Chrysler to zero, but that move hasn’t absolved the company of its share in Chrysler’s profits or losses.

A small, but bright light for Daimler has been its Smart car unit, which was rolled out to the US market in January 2008. Since then, the company has sold more than 26,000 units of the low cost car, which has helped to stem US losses across all three brands to just 1.5% in 2008. However, the profit lines on the diminutive Smart are much lower than the typical Mercedes, demonstrating that Daimler needs to see a rebound with its higher cost cars if it hopes to turn a profit.
