Chrysler Crossfire – Brakes and Brake Assist System

29 December 2009 | 1 Comment » | admin

The power-assisted braking system provided in the Chrysler Crossfire is befitting to the performance level of the Chrysler. Undoubtedly, brakes and brake assistant system are important factor of a racing car like Crossfire. The brakes and brake assist system in the Chrysler Crossfire is appropriate for a racing car and also has set yardstick for others in the motor industry.

Following are some of the salient features of brake assist system used in the Chrysler Crossfire. The brake system of the crossfire has large diameter ventilated front discs and solid rear discs. The system is backed up by the highly sophisticated electronic wizards of Brake Assist System and ANS anti-lock.

The front brakes of crossfire have ventilated discs of 300 X 28 mm measure with single piston floating calipers. The rear brake discs of crossfire measures 278 X 9mm. These rear discs have opposed-piston calipers. When any set of front pads becomes worn the wear sensors fitted in the system illuminate dashboard warning light. The power assistance is provided through tandem master cylinder and single=diaphragm vacuum booster.

The Chrysler Crossfire has state of the art ABS consisting of four-channel, four wheel anti-lock of standard quality. This brake system is considered most suiting for the crossfire.

When a driver applies heavy brakes, specifically on slippery surface, the system gets activated and applies and releases the brakes at high rate. The optimum brake applies and release rate is 30 times per second. Despite the higher rate of brake applying and release the system prevents wheel lock up and helps the driver in retaining steering control.

The Brake Assist System fitted in the Chrysler Crossfire anticipates the emergency application of brake by the driver and immediately releases optimum available power boost to help the driver gain control over the car without loosing steering control. The driver may have usual human tendency of not braking hard or not breaking soon enough. The Brake Assist System overcomes these problems.

Like other features of the Chrysler Crossfire, its brakes and brake assist system is reliable. The system is of high standard quality technology and produces excellent performance even in adverse conditions.

A New Direction in Automotive Lifts

28 December 2009 | No Comments » | admin

Innovation in the automotive lift service department is driving time savings, improved efficiency and resource savings for dealerships looking to speed vehicle check-in, improve technician performance and reduce waste.

These new technologies in automotive lifts range far and wide. Among others, they include laptop and notebooks service advisor tools that improve walk-around results while getting customers in and out of the write-up process faster, connectivity tools that assist technicians in their problem diagnosis and resolution, and automotive lift systems using non-hazardous hydraulic oils for their operation.

On of the newest technologies for the service department is an inground automotive lift using water (instead of petroleum or vegetable-based hydraulic oils) and compressed air (rather than electric motors to raise and lower the unit.

The new type of automobile lift system has been in operation in a number of dealership service departments for several months. It also has been accepted by a number of OEMs, including Ford Motor Company, which offers it to its dealers through the Ford Rotunda program, Ford?s OE equipment and tool program.

“There has been no new significant technology in lifts for the last 10 years or so, but Challenger Lifts, with this new AquaVantage model, has changed the true guts of lifts,” says Nick Zala, vice president of OEM Sales for Integrated Supply Network, administrators of the Rotunda program for Ford Motor Company.

Because these lifts use corrosion-resistant anodized aluminum pistons, water?usually unwelcome in a vehicle service environment?presents no concerns about rust in the unit or its impact on internal components.

The innovation leader in automotive lift technology, Challenger Lifts has a complete line of lifting equipment – two-post, four-post and inground cassette models. Challenger is an ALI member and sells ALI/ETL certified lifts to dealers. Challenger Lifts offers all recommended OEM colors as well as custom paint colors.

Innovative Hoods From Chrysler

28 December 2009 | No Comments » | admin

Hoods provide a great deal of protection for the very life of the car, the engine. The hood is the sheet metal panel which sits at the front part of a vehicle, serving as an entryway into the engine. It is designed to be sturdy and durable to safeguard the engine and its components from elements that may be damaging like extreme heat, pouring rain, foreign particles, and road debris.

From the moment that cars are born, hoods are one of the very first features that are installed in them. With the evolution of the vehicles, these most basic yet very useful auto parts have also gone through massive development. A lot of automakers make sure that every new model they come up with has hoods that are made of the finest materials with the latest technology. Chrysler is one of them.

It has always been known that Chrysler stands for a car brand that means luxury in every part of the car. It boasts not only a good-looking physique, but also a powerful performance befitting its aesthetic value. Among its many parts that perfectly define the Chrysler?s elegant style is the Chrysler hood. Made from quality materials, it has undergone extensive tests, guaranteeing that it is worthy enough to be a protector of important vehicle parts. Some hoods are made with polyurethane, usually black in color, which is very durable and highly heat-resistant. The Chrysler hood also offers an option of customization deemed essential by the modern market to reflect a car owner?s individuality. There are customized hoods, coming in a variety of designs and contours, to enhance the already sleek body of Chrysler vehicles.

Improvements, however, are focused not only on the Chrysler hood?s look. There are also high-performance hoods that have openings in them to enable the engine to breathe easily. There are accessories available just for the hood as well. One example is the hood scoop. It is placed on the hoods to direct the outside air directly into the air filter, thus providing more efficiency in performance. The nose protector is another accessory that protects the hood from road debris and grime. There is also the hood spoiler which improves the aerodynamics aspect of the car to diminish the air drag. More accessories like these can be found on the internet, as they are sold by a number of auto parts online retailers.

Ford Entertains Bigger Chassis

28 December 2009 | No Comments » | admin

Ford Motor Co. may seem struggling in some auto categories. But the Dearborn-based automaker is doing well in the manufacture of pickup trucks, its bread and butter vehicles. To hold onto its lead in the industry, the automaker seeks to unveil largest and most adaptable motor homes.

The Blue Oval does not sell recreational vehicles under its own name, but Ford is the leading manufacturer of motor home chassis in the United States. Ford said Tuesday it will widen its lead by unveiling its biggest, most-capable motor home chassis at the annual RV show in Louisville, Ky.

The new F53 Super Duty Class A chassis, made in Detroit, is all about weight. There are six models in the lineup. Based on reports, the biggest has a gross vehicle weight rating of 26,000 pounds.

According to Rob Stevens, chief engineer for Ford’s commercial truck division, that refers to the amount of weight that can be added to the chassis, and titanic numbers like this are just what RV companies are looking for today. “It’s all about knowing our customers,” he said.

“We spend a lot of time traveling to their factories, working with their engineers and finding out what their needs are,” Stevens said, adding that those usually come down to more weight. “Baby boomers want to take their houses with them.”

For the biggest motor homes, the automaker is offering its 6.8-liter Triton V-10, which provides best-in-class performance producing 362 horsepower and 457 foot-pounds of torque. Aside from the superb hauling power, the automaker?s new chassis deliver improved ride and handling, quieter operation and wheels capable of turning up to 50 degrees in either direction.

The F53 is manufactured at a factory inside a Detroit Renaissance Zone. The 33-acre plant, owned by brothers Mike and Carlton Guthrie, operates as a contract manufacturing facility for the Dearborn automaker, with Ford?s own staff supervising the production.

“We’re not quite an arm’s-length first-tier supplier, nor are we a Ford plant. We’re somewhere in between,” said Detroit Chassis Plant CEO Mike Guthrie. “Our plant is entirely dedicated to Ford Motor Co. They’re our only customer and it’s our only product.”

When the Guthries first approached the automaker, the RV chassis were manufactured in Mexico. With help from the city and the United Auto Workers, who agreed to competitive contract terms, the brothers were able to put together a bid to produce the underbodies in Detroit for less than Ford was paying in Mexico, the report continued.

“The commercial truck business is a 500-piece jigsaw puzzle. One of the very big pieces of that puzzle is the motor home industry,” said Joe Castelli, director of marketing for Ford’s commercial truck division. “It’s a good business for Ford.”

The automaker does not divulge financial results for its motor home venture, but Castelli said Ford produces about 30,000 RV chassis of all classes each year, accounting for about 10 percent of its total commercial truck output. And it is consistently profitable.

The largest models borrow from the F-650 commercial trucks. Castelli said these titans will not only guarantee Ford stays in the lead, but should increase its share even more despite the escalating gasoline price.

As other automakers focus on the enhancement of other auto parts such as engines and shocks, Ford takes the risk of beefing up the chassis. It is a risk Ford is willing to take, Castelli said. “This is one of the hidden gems at Ford,” he concluded. “It’s got a lot of momentum, and we expect it to keep growing.”
