In an effort to create a separate luxury division for its products, Honda introduced Acura to the US automotive market in 1986. Acura became an instant hit — a success rooted on its vehicles’ impeccable features, performance, and upscale image, coupled with Honda’s reputation for reliability. Every Acura car is readily equipped with virtually all the features one demands from an upscale car. Acura’s propensity to provide these features hauled accolades from satisfied customers. In fact, the carmaker has scored typically well in J.D. Power’s quality and satisfaction surveys. J.D. Power and Associates is a global marketing information firm that conducts independent and unbiased surveys of customer satisfaction, product quality, and buyer behavior.

Just like other cars, Acura’s assets can be further enhanced by a set of performance parts. Usually synonymous to racing, Acura performance parts can actually be used for ‘everyday’ Acura cars that need improvement in power, handling, and fuel economy. They are special replacement parts designed to boost a vehicle’s power, since the stock automotive components are somewhat restrictive. The most common Acura performance parts are air filters, intake kits, and exhausts.

An Acura air filter removes contaminants, which are often solid particles from the air, to produce an specific air quality needed for a vehicle’s combustion process. An oversized Acura performance air filter, however, sucks more clean air into the engine, thus increasing the engine’s power and torque. The Acura exhaust, on the other hand, carries harmful exhaust gases away from the passenger compartment and also converts most of the harmful gases into acceptable by-products. Moreover, it helps in reducing the sound made by the internal combustion engine, reduce the temperature of the exhaust, and control the emissions that come out of the vehicle. An Acura performance exhaust system’s job is not only to control emissions, but also to provide the engine an ‘extra grunt,’ giving the race car sound.

Acura performance air filters and exhaust systems are just some of the many Acura performance parts that are offered in the market. It depends on the owner whether his or her Acura needs improvement/s on certain performance parts.

Ford Motor Co. has earlier unveiled its all-new lineup F-Series Super Duty truck lineup which includes 2008 F-450. The latest lineup will be couple with the biggest pickup production ever made by the automaker.

Early next year, Ford’s redesigned version of huge pickup vehicles will be having their debut. To add extra charisma to Ford Super Duty trucks, the automaker has added towing capacity, refined suspension, innovative tailgate, 6.4-liter diesel engine and other exceptional features.

Some analysts expressed their impression about the debut of the latest Ford trucks. Erich Merkle, an analyst with IRN Inc. noted, “The Super Duty is incredibly important for Ford because, not only does it represent some pretty serious volume for them, (but) it’s also quite profitable. Of course, these days, every launch is critical for Ford.”

On one side, some analysts have noted their concerns regarding the risk of economic environment for selling commercial trucks. Others are also saying that Ford is only left with little choices so the automaker opted to upgrade Super Duty trucks to bring back its footing in the market.

Ford Super Duty has outsold other heavy-duty trucks. From the year 2000 to 2005, Ford has sold about 750,000 heavy-duty pickup trucks. Further, the sales of Super Duty accounts for 40 percent of the overall F-Series sales.

Pete Reyes, chief engineer of the Super Duty line said, “The biggest challenge with the 450 was making it a legitimate pickup. The challenge with a pickup is providing excellent ride, excellent handling and excellent stability — both empty and fully loaded. It’s tough luxury.”

General Motors, Ford’s rival, is also releasing new models of heavy-duty pickup trucks. Hence, to make a good competition, Ford is releasing its mighty F-450. It can be recalled that Ford F-350 Super Duty pickup parts have already established its standing. As a fact, F-350 was given a best-in-class payload and weight ratings. To boost further what F-350 has achieved, the automaker is giving F-450 a towing capacity in excess of 24,000 pounds and a payload capacity in excess of 6,000 pounds.

Ford announced two milestones this week. The first is a new CEO coming from outside the company, in this case Boeing. The second is a restructuring plan that everybody knew was coming. We just didn’t know how deep, or how far they would cut. This company is very quickly becoming a case study at Business School for how NOT to run a company.

The company has a management team that has been asleep at the switch for at least 25 years. You would think they woke up this morning for the first time, and said we have to cut everywhere.

Let’s start with what’s missing from the plan, the MASTER plan that Ford is now proposing. I have reviewed all publicly disseminated documents and this is what I conclude. I don’t see a word anywhere talking about “LET’S MAKE CARS OF HIGH QUALITY THAT PEOPLE WANT TO BUY.”

The only thing these guys talk about is financial engineering. They’ve blown it, they’ve blown it so bad, that the question is, are they so far down in the hole that they can’t dig themselves out. They may be at that point. Let’s deal with reality. America is NOW a high cost producer of just about anything that involves manufacturing. In 1900, half our population was involved in agriculture. Think, half of us were farmers, or farming related.

With the continued industrialization of this country, we moved from the farm to machines, to manufacturing. America was a manufacturing powerhouse for decades. The latest census shows that we are a 75% service society, and about 4% agriculture. The rest is manufacturing, and that sector will continue to decline.

Automobile manufacturing is the tip of the problem. We will come to a point perhaps, where there will be little to no car manufacturing in this country. It’s sad, but it is what it is. We have to deal with it. Ford has not wanted to deal with it for decades. They wait till now to say, we have a problem, “Hello, anybody home, are you listening.”

I was talking to an individual recently who has sold Lincoln cars (owned by Ford) for 25 years. He told me about a woman that bought a Ford Navigator, and drove immediately from the dealership on a trip to Florida. The horror show began in New Jersey. Windows started to open and close on their own. Internal lights went on and off. By the time she made it to Maryland, she had to leave the car at a Ford dealership.

Two weeks later, the company decided to give her a new car. Apparently while building the car, a worker put some kind of sharp tool through the wiring harness in the engine compartment. The shorts were everywhere, and affecting every major electronic component of the vehicle. This is not an isolated incident. Ford use to advertise, “Where quality is number 1.” Had they put quality in their cars through the years, they wouldn’t have a problem today.

What do the people who run Ford drink at night? What do they smoke? Do they think everyone else outside their company is functioning in the same manner that they are. The Japanese continue to set a high standard. The standard may be so high that we Americans may not be able to reach it anymore. Is that a reason for Ford not to try?

Ford has 75,000 hourly workers in the United States. The company has offered to buy out all of them. If you have a FULL year on the job, you get a $100,000 buyout, and healthcare benefits for 6 months. If you have either 30 years on the job, or you are age 55 with 15 years or more on the job, you get $140,000 to leave immediately. You also get to keep your pension, but you give up retirement health care coverage.

Workers are also being offered college benefits with 8 other options. These are people who in a good year are use to making a $100,000 with overtime. Where do we stand now? You have a 100% UNHAPPY workforce. You know how a car spins its wheels in the snow. You are going to have every worker at Ford spinning his wheels, do I take the deal, do I not take the deal. They will be flipping coins trying to figure it out. Meanwhile the executive ranks are going to be saying to themselves, “What am I doing here.”

The whole game plan is about as disruptive to a corporation as disruptive can be. How is anything going to get done including manufacturing well designed cars that people are comfortable buying?

Wait, there’s more?

This whole deal has been announced before the new CEO, Alan Mulally of Boeing takes over in the next couple of weeks. Is their any reason why this announcement couldn’t wait two weeks for the new man to come in? Ford made a CONSCIENCE decision to announce immediately. They didn’t want their new CEO to take the pubic hit for adverse public reactions that are going to come from the latest restructuring plan.

Can Ford come back?

It’s really a good question. The answer is that it’s going to be tough under all scenarios. The best bet they have going for them is bringing in an OUTSIDER. Einstein once said, “The significant problems we have cannot be solved at the same level of thinking with which we created them.” I believe this is a cardinal rule of management as well. The problems of a company cannot be solved by the same executives who were there when the problems were created.

The executives now in charge at Ford are part of the problem. They in fact are the problem. They have too much invested in an old way of thinking, an old management style that is no longer appropriate for the 21st century. In fact, it hasn’t been appropriate for 25 years, which is why the Japanese are eating Ford for lunch. It may still be too little, too late, and what about QUALITY and DESIGN, still not a word from Ford.

The exhaust system allows the car to generate fumes with reduced levels of toxicity, resulting to less harm to the environment. But what comes out of the car?s tail pipe depends a great deal on what goes on under the hood, within the exhaust assembly itself. It is, therefore, quite important for owners to take very good care of each and every part of the exhaust system. This includes the tail pipe. Those who can count on the talents of Volvo tail pipes must consider themselves exceedingly lucky. Unlike other tail pipes, Volvo Tail Pipes have been associated with durability and performance for so long now one need not worry that a Volvo Tail Pipe will immediately end up breaking under the slightest pressure.

A Volvo Tail Pipe is often located just by the car’s rear portion, the part that directs the fumes out of the car?s system, into the open air. This part is generally the only visible part and often sports a straight or angled cut. Volvo Tail Pipes though may come along with a fancy tip, on occasion. The tip is usually chrome-finished, and is typically a pipe that?s larger in size than the rest of those in the exhaust system. This reduces pressure in the system, as well as prevents the tips of the pipe from rusting. In addition, Volvo Tail Pipes are also used to enhance the appearance of the car, handy since Volvo Tail Pipes are one of the least expensive parts of the system so one can improve the car?s exhaust performance and looks by merely installing Volvo Tail Pipes.

In addition, car owners who want to spruce up their rides can choose to customize their Volvo Tail Pipes. In some cases, installing more than one tail pipe is encouraged and recommended. The resulting set-up not only leads to spiffier looks for the car but to improvements in exhaust performance as well.

The auto industry is beset with various problems — if it?s not about overproduction, lack of funds, then it would be union problems, and if it?s not about the workers then there?s always the problems on late arrival of parts and the list goes on.

And just recently a lot of the Western automakers have to stop or slow down production due to the delay in the shipment of parts that got stuck in customs. And one of these automakers is Ford that ran short on components and was forced to scale back production of cars at its plant near St. Petersburg.

According to the head of the Western supplier?s Russian operations, “We were certainly not happy, that’s for sure. There have been a number of problems with customs clearance.” He also requested that his name as well as his company?s name be withheld in the fear of antagonizing the authorities.

The problem that Ford experience with the spare-parts shipment is also experience by other car plants across the country and is said to be getting worst. It can be remembered that foreign carmakers rushed to build plants after the government announced two years ago that it is rolling out the red carpet. But now after the multimillion-dollar announcements have been made and the fanfare has died down, the giant automakers are becoming aware that there are shortage of quality auto components that they need for the assembly of their Camrys, Logans, and Passats.

To obtain their needed parts most carmakers are bringing in components via the rail, road, and sea from abroad. This is despite the fact that they have the obligation to source more components locally in the near future. Most of the foreign parts makers are just starting to open shop which means that they cannot provide yet the required volume of component parts that various automakers require for their productions on the other hand Russian-produced components are not quality enough to pass assembly requirements according to industry executives.

The local car industry is handicapped by the quality of local suppliers who according to Carl Hahn– Chairman emeritus of Volkswagen– are far below world standards. Hahn was given the tasked of helping Volkswagen enter Russia.

Volkswagen has recently chosen a site near Moscow for the construction of its future Volkswagen plant where both Skoda and Volkswagen models are to be assembled and that area is the Kaluga—which is about 120 kilometers south of Moscow where most of the suppliers are. Unfortunately, even in Moscow there are not enough suppliers to supply and create the auto components like VW mufflers that the automaker needs for its vehicles.

The automakers that have taken their production to Russia includes Ford Motor, Renault, Kia Motors, Volkswagen, General Motors, Toyota, and Nissan but only the last four automakers have announced their plans of building plants in Russia. It is no secret that sales in Western markets is not only saturated but stagnating, which leaves carmakers to take their chance on Russia where nearly any foreign car sells well.

Last year, Ford Focus garnered Russia?s best-selling foreign model an honor that Ford has never achieve in its own home market. GM?s Chevrolet Niva that was built in partnership with AvtoVAZ was proclaimed the second-best selling vehicle according to the Association of European Businesses in Russia.

Most of you must be thinking why did automakers choose Russia as their new production haven? Russia is an ideal country to produce cars since the government has scrapped tariffs on key car components to encourage carmakers to assemble their vehicles here. All the government is asking is from the carmakers in return for the favor they have given is to gradually increase the proportion of domestically produced parts that they use to 30 percent within 4

A car runs through its own complex systems. And yet, each system plays a very vital role in the performance of the car. It is not just about the engine, about the electrical systems, or whatever stuff that one puts in his car. One should also bear in mind the excess that the car contributes to the environment. For short, motorists should not just focus on what they put in the car, but also with what stuff comes out of it. More importantly, note if this ?stuff? could be harmful to the environment, or to other people as well. Hence, one should know what happens under the hood of the car with the VW exhaust system. Because only VW can guarantee the best car exhaust.

The VW Exhaust system ensures that converted gas will not emit any harmful reaction to the air. It is composed of the VW exhaust parts such as the exhaust, the muffler, the exhaust pipe, and the catalytic converter. An exhaust pipe is usually tubing used to guide waste exhaust gases away from a controlled combustion inside an engine or stove. With an internal combustion engine it is usually part of an exhaust system which conveys burnt gases from the engine and includes one or more exhaust pipes. The VW Exhaust system assures the driver only high quality performance that is evident in the air and sound that the car releases.

Depending on the overall system design, the exhaust gas may flow through one or more of: the turbocharger to increase engine power; a catalytic converter to reduce air pollution; or a muffler to reduce the noise. An exhaust pipe must be carefully designed to carry toxic and/or noxious gases away from the users of the machine. Indoor generators and furnaces can quickly fill an enclosed space with carbon monoxide or other poisonous exhaust gases if they are not properly vented to the outdoors. Also, the gases from most types of machine are very hot; the pipe must be heat-resistant, and it must not pass through or near anything which can burn or can be damaged by heat.

In most production engines, the manifold is an assembly designed to collect the exhaust gas from two or more cylinders into one pipe. Manifolds are often made of cast iron in stock production cars, and may have material-saving design features such as to use the least metal, to occupy the least space necessary, or have the lowest production cost. These design restrictions often result in a design that is cost effective but that does not do the most efficient job of venting the gases from the engine. Inefficiencies generally occur due to the nature of the combustion engine and its cylinders. Since cylinders fire at different times, exhaust leaves them at different times, and pressure waves from gas emerging from one cylinder might not be completely vacated through the exhaust system when another comes. This creates a back pressure and restriction in the engine’s exhaust system that can restrict the engine’s true performance possibilities.

So to ensure that not only good things are in the car, but the stuff that comes out of it too; one should trust the name of Volkswagen. When a car gears up with the VW Exhaust system, with its premium VW exhaust parts, the only harm that one could get is the envy of other drivers.

I am interested in learning High performance Engine Building and Chassis Fabrication. I have only been able to find two which appear to have what I’m looking for.
One is UTI (www.uti.edu) and the other is Wyotech (www.wyotech.edu).
Please suggest if there is another option out there?
Thanking you
