For its third birthday, the Dodge Magnum gets some face lifting mainly around the headlights, seeking to correct what Chrysler design chief Trevor Creed described as the Magnum’s “wide-eyed look.” Aside from the scowling new headlights, the ‘08 Magnum also gets a new grille and the new interior. The latter change is shared with the Dodge Charger, but neither the Charger nor the Chrysler 300 is getting a facelift for next year.

The Magnum was displayed in SRT8 trim at Detroit to better show off the hood scoop which is now part of the SRT8 package. The car also features a new paint color for the SRT8, a bright lipstick red. The 2008 Dodge Magnum SRT8 is more intimidating than ever with its completely redesigned hood, grille, front fascia and functional performance hood scoop. The 2008 Dodge Magnum SRT8 retains its commitment to the SRT credo of “Race inspired, street legal” with 0-60 mph performance in the low 5-second range while, at the same time, maintaining all of the functional and convenience features the entire 2008 Dodge Magnum lineup has to offer.

What does the 2008 Dodge Magnum look like?

Dodge designers restyled the side creases and stretched the front end by lowering the hood line and adding chrome accents under the headlights. The Challenger will be made in limited numbers on the same line as the Dodge Charger, Chrysler 300, and the Dodge Magnum in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. There is no denying it – the upcoming Challenger looked positively superior when the sheet is whisked off.

Soon after the launch, Inside Line visited Chrysler’s Pacifica Design Studio in Carlsbad, California, where the 2008 Dodge Challenger Concept was designed. “Early on, we just tried to capture ‘Mopar’ in the designs,” Mike Castiglione told Inside Line. “We tried to capture the beveled edges that were uniquely Mopar back in the muscle car days. If you look at an old Challenger or Charger, the lines have a snap to them. Once we figured that out, then we got more focused.”

Two Challenger Concepts were manufactured, both powered by the popular 6.1-liter Hemi V8. The first was the stunning orange Challenger Concept designed to be a street car that produces 425hp. The second concept is the 525-hp flat-black Challenger Super-stock concept which knocks off 11.0-second quarter-mile runs.

According to the automaker, the concept cars are based on a shortened Dodge Charger platform and are topped with carbon fiber bodies. To stress, both are real runners. Unlike all other American domestic sport coupes, the new Challenger is a true two-door hardtop, with no B-pillar. Recent spy photographs of production test mule Challengers have revealed the presence of a B-pillar, but it is as yet unclear as to whether actual production models will contain the B-pillar.

The 2008 Dodge Caliber SRT-4 will be offering Dodge?s compact front-drive Caliber package, along with packing a turbocharged and intercooled four-cylinder engine and racy styling. For the 2008 year version however, the Dodge Caliber SRT-4 will be having more power and better transmission. The new Caliber SRT-4 has also proved its safe worthiness after having achieved an EPA fuel economy of 21 mpg on city and 26 on highway. Pricing is at $23,990 and $22,995 for the base.

As with the old SRT-4, the speed of the new model is impressive ? taking you from 0 to 60 mph in less than 6 seconds. Priced with $19,999, the previous model is good to drive, aside from being a quiet machine. It had no muffler; instead, it relied on the turbocharger to keep the sound good enough to be legal. But, the new Caliber SRT-4 is sporting a muffler.

The new model?s turbocharged and intercooled 4-cylinder engine has the same displacement of 2.4 liters as with the old SRT-4, of which has enhanced power set at 285 horsepower (55 more than the old car) and 265 lb-ft of torque (15 better). Together with the mount of power, the weight and price followed, increased 10% and 15% respectively.

More than being equipped with premium Dodge axle assembly, the new Caliber SRT-4 features the same basic styling, as it has aggressive front end with multiple hood scoops and big grille openings feeding the intercooler. It comes closely comparable with the Dodge Charger SRT-8 with regards to the big five-spoke wheels; though the Caliber has oversized fender flares that make those wheels look quite small, while the finned rear bumper looks dorky.

Far from a usual sports car, the 2008 Caliber SRT-4 has tall and upright driving position. But, it is comfortable, if a little short on thigh support. The steering wheel and pedals are perfectly positioned though. Comparing it to regular Calibers, the SRT-4 has rearranged instrument cluster with the tachometer in the center and a turbo boost gauge.

Overall, most test drivers seem to like the old Caliber more than the latest, because the price and performance makes a big difference to be preferred.

This time, STARTECH applied their professional ingenuity, and made a sporty design as well as engine tuning for Chrysler Group’s Dodge Caliber 2.0 CRD diesel model. Moreover, the German tuning company also included a prominent aerodynamic enhancement kit for the vehicle. STARTECH engineers and designers have developed this aerodynamic enhancement parts to add to the Dodge Caliber’s overall sporty design appearance and improve aerodynamics.

STARTECH gave the Dodge Caliber 2.0 CRD with front fascia upgrades, which improves the compact car’s front styling as well as reduces the lift on the car’s front axle. At the rear fascia, the Dodge Caliber 2.0 CRD received numerous auto parts enhancements from STARTECH. Meanwhile, customers can instead choose a variety of STARTECH optional features for the Caliber compact car. To improve the driving feel, STARTECH offers polished aluminum trim for gear shifter and foot pedals, as well as door-lock pins. High-quality floor mats with STARTECH signet are also available.

The STARTECH SD3 performance kit gives the Dodge Caliber 2.0 CRD equipped with 2.0-liter common-rail four-cylinder engine an additional power and torque output of 40 hp (29.4 kW) and 50 Nm, respectively. The engine now pumps out a maximum 180 hp (132 kW) at 4,000 rpm and pulls out 360 Nm amount of peak torque rotation between 1,750 and 2,500 rpm. From 9.3 seconds, the STARTECH tuned Dodge Caliber can now accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.6 seconds, reaching a top speed of 201 km/h.

Watch out for other upcoming STARCTECH tuned up Chrysler and Jeep models. Probably the newly released Jeep Grand Cherokee with Jeep tail light guard will be included.
